This Mess We’re In - New Video - Sofia Talvik

2020 has been a crazy year in many aspects. Swedish artist Sofia Talvik’s new Christmas single is taking on quite a few of these in her new music video. ”Can we fix this mess we’re in?” is what she’s asking while showing grave pictures of covid deniers in north the U.S and Europe, nurses struggling with overfilled hospitals, wildfires raging California and hurricanes blasting through Puerto Rico. ”I’m looking into the ornament, the cracking surface shows me a world that’s spent” she sings as icebergs are collapsing in the next picture. If anyone was wondering where she stands on these issues, this video makes it clear. She is not a denier. ”This Mess We’re In” follows her tradition of releasing a Christmas single every year for over 10 years. In 2017 she gathered her songs up till then and released the album ”When Winter Comes” which charted as no 5 on Folk Radio USA. For this new single she has taken a step away from her usual acoustic Folk/Americana sound and explored the wonders of dream-folk. With a production of 5 different guitars and a banjo she has also invited New Orleans drummer Marc Pagani and Swedish bass genius Janne Manninen (Robyn, Seinabo Sey) to join her, creating a magic wonderland for this evocative production which still manages to tie in with her folky roots. ”I guess you could call it a doomsday Christmas song, because why not, it’s 2020.” Is Sofia’s own words about the single, and it shows in this gutsy video.

If you haven’t had a chance to check it out you can find it here, and the single is as always a free download on http://music.sofiatalvik.com. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the 4 track unplugged Christmas EP ”Notes For Christmas”.
